Out-of-print hardback in protected half-leather bound with plum morocco, Medium quarto over 11.5x9inches, lix + 962 pp with indexes, portrait frontis of author with 30 engravings in full-colour plates & numerous txt illustrations in monochrome by Castelli and Bartsch respectively, solid leather boards bright & clean, minor scuff blemish on upper & darker discoloration on lower, spine with gilded raised bands & titling, only rear upper corner actually bruised, bright clean blue marbled endpapers, hinges sensibly reinforced with professional tack ensuring absolutely firm tight book, owner's elegant script on 2nd flyleaf 'Bernard Blackburn, Castleford, 1866', sumptuous marbled edges, only faint spotting to prelims, apart from pale pg browning to mainly early & later gatherings, some age-shadowing and mild finger-soil to some print surrounds, and occasional minor pg blemish, with sparse light foxing, a single tissued-repair (p.165) & rust marks to following pg, and a few tiny bottom edge snags & top-edge p961, o/w textblock is in excellent clean bright condition, wonderfully clear bold large print of main txt would save a gnat from eye-strain, replete with beautiful dark green silken Bunyan birthplace bookmark, a magnificent, impressive, excellently preserved volume, including Life of Bunyan, Holy War, Divine Emblems, Grace Abounding etc with copious notes & a hugely heavy volume for shipping, ask us about some extra special information concerning this copy.
